The Mississauga Potters' Guild (the 'Guild', or 'MPG') is a Member-driven, not-for-profit corporation dedicated to fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for artists, potters, and students of all levels. This code of conduct outlines the expectations for all Members, students, staff, volunteers and instructors to ensure a thriving and sustainable community.

Building a Supportive Community

As a Member-driven, not-for-profit corporation, the MPG relies on the collective effort of its Members to thrive. Members are encouraged to explore their interests and share their skills across all key areas of the MPG, contributing to:

  • A Thriving Pottery Community
  • A Well-Maintained Studio to Work and Learn
  • Sustainability of the Mississauga Potters' Guild

Respect and Inclusivity

  • Treat everyone with dignity and respect, regardless of background, experience, or skill level. Embrace diversity and celebrate the unique perspectives each Member brings.
  • Practice considerate and respectful communication, fostering a collaborative spirit while respecting the need for quiet focus for individual artistic work.

Shared Responsibility of all Members

Contribute your skills and talents to help the Guild thrive; volunteer your time to maintain the studio and equipment, Guild operations and processes.

  • Respect the shared space by cleaning up after yourself and leaving the studio in pristine condition for others to enjoy. Be proactive in keeping the studio clean and organized, with the spirit of caring for the community by doing more than the minimum required.
  • Pay membership dues and fees on time to ensure the Guild's financial stability.
  • Support each other as members of a vibrant art community. Actively participate in Guild activities and events. Provide constructive artistic critique when welcome, but avoid unsolicited comments, respecting each other's artistic process.

Safe and Respectful Workplace

The Mississauga Potters' Guild upholds a zero-tolerance policy for all forms of harassment, bullying, discrimination, and violence. This includes:

  • Threats, intimidation, or physical aggression
  • Offensive language or imagery
  • Exclusion or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ability, or any other protected characteristic
  • Unwanted sexual attention, jokes, or comments

Reporting and Addressing Issues*

  • Members are empowered to report any violations of this code of conduct to any Director.
  • All reports will be formally documented and investigated thoroughly and promptly, with confidentiality respected.
  • The Guild will take appropriate action to address violations, including education, mediation, suspension, or termination of membership/employment.
  • The Guild will ensure a safe and supportive environment for reporting and addressing concerns without retaliation.
